Sometimes you have to take a risk to do what you love.

Welcome to the Bark Avenue Doggy Blog - the blog for Minneapolis based dog walking business Bark Avenue. In this blog, you will find information on our four legged friends, our two legged walkers and local doggie news.

Ultimately, though, this blog is here for you - our friends and readers who love dogs as much as we do. Something you’re wondering about? Something you’d like us to look into? Let us know.

Meet Megan Betty, the girl who started it all.

For as long as she can remember, Megan has loved dogs. As a kid, her dog Muffin was her best friend and confidant. When she was sad or got in trouble, Muffin would sit and cuddle with her.

After a tenure in corporate America, Megan found herself as a thirty-something urban woman with a full time job and a young daughter, London, named for her favorite city, but a sense that something was missing. She found herself jealous of people who loved their jobs and were pursuing their passions, the ones who had found their callings and were living the dream.

She read books on how to find your path, listen to your inner child, find what energizes you. She knew she needed a change, but what?

Megan thought about what brought her joy. It was spending time with London, cuddling with her favorite pup, living downtown, walking the river paths and checking out the dogs. Megan thought about how her friends would often joke when they were out that she would be checking out the dogs when she should be checking out the men instead. She thought about how she longed to have the freedom to spend more time with her daughter. She thought about how, before she had London, she had done pet sitting in her building and dreamed of opening a doggie daycare. She came to the decision that, if she was ever going to to be the woman and the mother she truly wanted to be, she would have to make a major change.

So she took a leap...

And Bark Avenue was born.

Megan officially opened the business in July of 2008, but Bark Avenue originated as a folder on her computer years before that. The name stemmed from Megan’s first trip to New York City (her second favorite city). In the folder were articles and ads on dog businesses - for Megan, the makings of a new career.

She started on her own, but as Bark Avenue gained more clients, Megan put together a team of dedicated animal lovers like her. And the most rewarding aspect of the business thus far has been meeting all the different dogs, their respective owners, and those she has chosen to work with Bark Avenue.

As for the future of Bark Avenue, Megan’s plan is to continue to offer great care and love to the pups around town, from dog walking and pet sitting to concierge services. Megan also still thinks about someday having a doggy daycare, her first dream. Time will tell.
